Driver thrown from car dies on roadside
Monday 19th September 2011, 3:01PM BST.
A 20-year-old man from Bridgnorth has died after he was thrown from his car when it rolled down a steep embankment hitting several trees.
The black Renault Twingo left the road while it was on the A442 Bridgnorth Road at Shatterford, near Bewdley, at about 3am yesterday.
Police officers found the man lying outside the vehicle after passers-by raised the alarm.
Paramedics battled to save his life but he was declared dead at the scene.
West Mercia Police today said the man’s next of kin had been informed and a probe had been launched into the cause of the accident.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision near to Bellman Cross which left the road closed until 11am yesterday.
An inquest on the victim, who has not been named, will be opened at a future date.
Constable Lee Bluck, of West Mercia Police, said: “A young man tragically lost his life and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
“An investigation has been launched into how and why this collision occurred, and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact us on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident reference 32 –180911.”
