Call to safeguard future of Rhyn Park School
Saturday 17th September 2011, 12:41PM BST.
A parish council says everything should be done to safeguard the future of a nearby secondary school.
Children in Weston Rhyn near Oswestry, go to primary school in their own village with their nearest secondary education at Rhyn Park, in St Martins.
As part of consultation over the possible creation of an ‘all-through’ school at Rhyn Park, Weston Rhyn Parish Council has spoken out in favour of retaining Rhyn Park.
Councillors at their recent meeting said they would not comment on the proposal to close Ifton Heath Primary School as part of the plan.
But they said it was important that the future of the secondary school was secure.
Weston Rhyn Clerk, Mr Roger Dyke, said: “Parish councillors were reassured that the future of Weston Rhyn Primary School was not in doubt.”
The parish council had been sent a letter by Shropshire and Gobowen Councillor, David Lloyd, who said that, while there was no threat to the primary schools in Gobowen or Weston Rhyn, he felt Rhyn Park School should continue as the provider of secondary education for the youngsters of the area.”
Consultations for the proposal for St Martins ended yesterday.

Well how would Mr Dyke feel if it was the Primary School in his village being shut and shoehorned into a single corridor to save Rhyn Park School ? If their numbers drop even more they might squeeze Weston Rhyn in as well!! and Gobowen. Why not shove in a Primary into Wakeman if its such a great idea? Perhaps it has something to do with value of land. Perhaps Mr Dyke would like to comment on that .
