Union draws up Shropshire Council potential strike dates
Wednesday 14th September 2011, 11:01AM BST.
Union chiefs are drawing up potential dates for strike action over a planned 5.4 per cent pay cut for Shropshire Council employees, it has been revealed.
Members of the executive of Unison’s Shropshire branch met yesterday to discuss the union’s next step.
It comes after 66 per cent of Unison members working at Shropshire Council who returned ballot papers voted in favour of strike action. About 86 per cent backed action short of a strike.
Council leaders say they need to make £76m of savings to spare it having to make 500 people redundant.
