‘Firearm’ incident in Shrewsbury town centre

ARMED POLICE cordoned off Shrewsbury town centre for nearly four hours today after fears were raised a gun was being pointed out of a window.

The area from Castle Gates to the bottom of Pride Hill was closed from 3.30am to 7.30am.

About 15 police officers with guns and wearing bullet proof vests, black suits and balaclavas were outside the flats when the police cordon was lifted at 7.30am after the incident ended peacefully.

Police said a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and later released without charge.
