Council backs plan to save Newtown indoor market

Multi-million pound proposals to save a historic Powys indoor market have won council backing.

The Mid Wales Food and Land Trust hopes to retain the Victorian heritage of the 149-year-old grade II-listed market hall in Newtown.

County councillors agreed yesterday to allow the trust to take on a 99-year lease for the hall as long as it is successful in grant applications.
