Developers drop homes plan for Calverhall, near Whitchurch
Monday 12th September 2011, 11:03AM BST.
Developers have withdrawn plans for new homes in a small village near Whitchurch after residents launched a petition opposing it. Shavington Farm Partnership hoped to build 16 homes at Church Farm, Calverhall.
But they have now decided to withdraw the plans after 39 residents signed a petition opposing them due to concerns over sewage, increase in traffic and water supplies being overburdened.
Residents said the development would have doubled the size of the village.
The scheme would have included a mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached homes. Applicants said they hoped to submit a new application for the site after going through objections.
Geoffrey Mihr, Calverhall resident, said: “A 50 per cent increase in the number of houses will adversely affect the water supply.
“Emerging traffic from the proposed access road will have limited view due to the bends in the road.”
