Manhunt launched for Shropshire conman
Friday 9th September 2011, 1:12PM BST.
A major manhunt was today launched by police for a Shropshire conman who was this afternoon sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after spending thousands of investors’ savings on a jet-set lifestyle.
Big-spending broker Robert Taylor-Barefoot, of Brockhurst, Shifnal, is thought to have fled the country after skipping bail just days before he was due to face trial over the £250,000 scam.
The 33-year-old was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison today after being found guilty by a jury in his absence of seven counts of fraud and one of conspiracy to defraud.
It emerged at the trial at the Old Bailey his travel documents were not seized as part of bail conditions and his description has now been distributed to all major British ports and airports in a desperate bid to find him and bring him to justice.
Police have made enquiries with his estranged wife Serena, who now lives in Ludlow, and his parents, also from Shropshire, but they insisted to officers they had not seen him.
