Burst water pipe cuts off Newtown homes and businesses

Businesses and households in Newtown were left without water for more than four hours today because of a burst pipe.

Up to 60 businesses on Mochdre Industrial Estate and dozens of households on the Vaynor estate were affected.

Severn Trent Water said a six inch pipe had burst on the industrial estate at about 6.30am today.

A spokesman said engineers had managed to restore supplies to some customers, but 56 business units on the Mochdre Industrial Estate were still without water.

Engineers were continuing to try and resolve the problem this morning.
