Workers this afternoon pulled down a section of the steel canopy which collapsed at the site of the new £35 million Abraham Darby Academy in Telford.
Some of the brick work at the building came down as the metal structure crashed to the ground at the Madeley school.
A handful of residents and security looked on as workers used a large machine to grab at the frame, removing it “piece by piece”.
Large diggers have been brought in to begin clearing up the mess after the steel structure collapsed on August 25, injuring five builders.
The men were hurt as the canopy came down on the same day pupils at the existing school were collecting their GCSE results.
Children in Year Seven returned to the current school yesterday with the remainder back today.
Richard Collin, regional framework manager for developers Kier Moss, has previously said the firm would not be carrying out any work on the academy building itself until a full structural survey has been done.
But it has been given permission by the Health and Safety Executive to resume work on areas unaffected by the incident.
Jane Mason, a spokesman for Kier Moss, said: “Initially this is confined to the new Woodlands Primary School area.”
Kier Moss had hoped to begin work on the adjacent leisure facility by last week.
