A Welshpool councillor who claims he was nearly run over on the town’s controversial one-way traffic system has urged other people to contact him with their tales of woe.

Councillor Dr John Morgan said he was putting together an ‘incident log’ and urged people to get in touch.

He said: “I was almost mown down stopping a car leaving Church Street and attempting to go up Brook Street at 8pm on Wednesday, but that is not the end of it.”

People can e-mail cllr.dr.john.morgan@gmail.com and the findings will be revealed to a meeting on September 21.

You’re not a police officer, traffic warden, VOSA inspector or Highways Agency employee in uniform, Dr. Morgan, so you don’t have any special powers to stop any motorist.

If an unknown person tried to stop my car and there was no obvious reason why they were doing so, I would also drive on and if they wanted to take a chance on blocking my way, then that is their option, but it would convince me even more that they were intent on doing mischief.

Too many tales of carjacking, drunks looking for “taxis”, road rage and violent robbery on drivers who are easy targets in their cars abound for a councillor to try and act as a road vigilante.

It’s your council that approved the scheme, so sort it out there, in the council chamber, not by going out and trying to physically stop drivers from doing things that do not please you. Any law-breaking witnessed, then report it to the police, like normal people have to.

      Couldn’t agree more Mr, Nosnail.
He probably thought being a councillor and a Dr. gave him power over us mere mortals. Live and learn eh?

Who said anything about power to stop a motorist? My interpretation of the article was that Dr Morgan was attempting to stop the driver making a dangerous mistake. Many people would do the same thing.
