Cannabis factory found in Telford
Friday 2nd September 2011, 6:00PM BST.
A cannabis factory containing £20,000 worth of illegal drugs was discovered by chance in Telford today while police investigated a separate incident.
A total of 30 plants and a hydroponics set up were found by officers at an address in Bembridge, Brookside, at about 9am.
Officers from the South Local Policing Team visited the address as they made inquiries in relation to a separate ongoing investigation.
Constable Berwyn Pratt, of the South Local Policing Team, said: “Following some excellent detective work, a hydroponics system – with plants growing in liquid – was discovered.
“Police are still at the scene dismantling the unit and when this has been completed, the plants and the hydroponics system will be seized and taken away for further examination.
“Targeting people involved in the use of and supply of drugs is a top priority for us, so today’s discovery is to be welcomed.”
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of can-nabis and is being questioned at Malinsgate Police Station.
Police believe the plants have a potential street value of about £20,000.
Anyone with information about any drug-related activity is urged to contact police on 0300 333 300.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
