Belton Cheese wins permission to expand
Friday 2nd September 2011, 4:37PM BST.
An award-winning cheese producer in Whitchurch has won planning permission to expand its farm factory.
The initial green light was given in December last year for Belton Cheese Ltd to increase its factory size and for the erection of five additional silos to maximise the company’s production.
But bosses then decided that the siting of the silos was unsuitable and would mean maintenance work using a large crane could cause disruption to the factory production times.
A design and access statement supporting the application said: “Having given the development further consideration, Belton Cheese judge that the position of the proposed silos is not suitable. The silos are too enclosed by the existing factory and will be further enclosed by the proposed factory extension.”
The plan is to relocate them from the south-west to the south-east side of the existing building.
Whitchurch Town Council gave its backing.
Ian Kilby, development manager for Shropshire Council, said in his report: “The proposed development is appropriate in its design and scale and it will not have a detrimental impact upon the character and appearance of the surrounding area.”
