A jousting tournament took centre stage during a medieval weekend at Hawkstone Park and Follies, in Weston-under-Redcastle, near Wem.

The sound of thundering hooves and medieval fanfares attracted large crowds of visitors to see mounted knights attempt to unseat each other from their horses.

The show was put on by The Knights of the Damned, a Shropshire-based re-enactment group featuring Telford stunt man Justin Pearson, whose film credits include The Dark Knight, The Da Vinci Code and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of The Clones.

Roger Whitehouse, the park manager at the follies, said: "Six knights did battle in our jousting competition which always draws the biggest crowd of the weekend."

Yesterday's colourful jousting tournament capped a weekend of medieval goings-on at the park.

Re-enactment group Les Miles de Marches spent the whole weekend at the park as part of the venue's fourth annual medieval weekend.

Members portrayed the 12th century Audley family of Redcastle – from which the name Weston-under-Redcastle was established.

They gave a complete re-enactment of life at that time – displaying its justice, military training and sport.
