Plantsman grows tribute to his late mother
Monday 29th August 2011, 11:30AM BST.
A Shropshire plantsman has come up with a very special floral tribute in memory of his mother – an alstroemeria bearing her name.
Christine Marsh, of Walford Heath near Shrewsbury, died in a tragic accident this year while holidaying with an old school friend in New Zealand.
Her horticulturalist son Viv, who runs Viv Marsh Postal Plants, also from Walford Heath, has the biggest collection of alstroemeria in Europe and was awarded the National Collection earlier this year.
Now, in tribute to his mother, he has launched the Christine Marsh variety described as “tall and elegant with dappled maroon petals and a yellow throat”.
Christine, a former Shropshire WI chairwoman and magistrate, was a great supporter of her son’s work in horticulture, a gardener and a long-time fan of Shrewsbury Flower Show.
