Hospital shake-up boss paid £125,000

The man behind plans to shake up hospital services in Shropshire received a salary in the region of £125,000 in the last financial year, a new report has revealed.
Adam Cairns, chief executive of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, only took up the role in July last year following the departure of former chief Tom Taylor.
According to the trust’s annual report Mr Cairns received remuneration in the salary band of £120,000 to £125,000 in 2010/11. He also received benefits in kind of £3,000.
His predecessor, who left at the end of April, 2010 received between £20,000 and £25,000 for the short period he was there in the last financial year.
In the year 2009/10 Mr Taylor’s salary was between £170,000 and £175,000. He also received benefits in kind to the tune of £1,800.
The report also revealed the salaries of other directors employed by the trust.
These included Julia Clarke, director of compliance and risk management, who received between £85,000 and £90,000; and Deborah Vogler, director of strategy, who received a similar salary but also received benefits in kind of £10,000.
Tina Cookson, chief operating officer since December, got between £30,000 and £35,000; and Victoria Morris, director of quality and safety/chief nurse since January, received between £15,000 and £20,000 plus benefits in kind of £700.
Of those who have now left the trust Patricia Rowson, director of service delivery until November last year, received between £75,000 and £80,000; Dr Stephen Evans, medical director until March, received between £180,000 and £185,000; and Stephen Shanahan, finance director until November, got between £75,000 and £80,000.
David Gilburt, interim finance director between November and March who was supplied by Bonduca Ventures LLP, got between £70,000 and £75,000.
The new chairman of the trust, Dr John Davies, who has been in post since January, received between £20,000 and £25,000.
Interim medical director Dr Ashley Fraser, in place since March 15, got between £5,000 and £10,000, as did five non-executive directors – Susan Assar, Martin Beardwell, Dennis Jones, Barry Simms and Dr Peter Vernon.
Dr Simon Walford, ano-ther non-executive director, who joined in October last year, received up to £5,000.
