Fire threatens Baschurch homes
Thursday 25th August 2011, 11:17AM BST.
An unattended skip fire sparked a huge inferno which raced across 40 acres of fields threatening to engulf homes in a Shropshire village.
The fire spread to a tree then to a field of stubble and a pile of cow manure before igniting 300 metres of hedgerows and damaging a home in Baschurch, near Shrewsbury. Blustery conditions fanned the flames
Firefighters described the scene as “horrendous” when they arrived to tackle the blaze in fields between Weston Road and Stanwardine Road just after noon yesterday. It left fields scorched and damaged the exterior of a property in Summerhill, Baschurch.
It is believed the fire started accidentally at a work yard.
