Welshpool events could be merged
Tuesday 23rd August 2011, 2:25PM BST.
Two of Welshpool’s biggest events could be merged next year under plans by the town council.
The town council could combine both the town’s air show and transport festival next year, after a disappointing air show this year that was ruined by the weather.
Attendance at the 2010 event was between 3,500 and 5,000 people, which dropped this year to 1,000 after 40mm (1.6 inches) of rain fell during the day.
Robert Robinson, town clerk, said: “We had between 3,500 and 5,000 in 2010 and then around 1,000 this year, which, while considerably down, was expected due to it being one of the wettest days in June in history.”
Councillors will discuss the event, which this year attracted the Red Arrows at a meeting tomorrow night.
A report to the council also recommends charging an entrance fee for the combined event.
Both events have been free in the past.
