Telford councillor reported over escort website pictures
Tuesday 23rd August 2011, 9:00PM BST.
Councillor Nicola Holmes, a member of Great Dawley Parish Council in Telford, was featured on an adult website which described her as a “busty brunette” and offered her services for £150 an hour.
She denied any involvement, branding the webpage “disgusting” and claiming someone else set it up out of malice.
Since the revelations, a member of the public has now submitted a complaint to the borough council’s standards committee. The committee is responsible for promoting high standards of behaviour and conduct, particularly for elected members of the borough council and the parish and town councils within the borough.
The complainant, who does not want to be named, said he believed her appearance on the webpage “brings the council into disrepute”.
The letter of complaint, sent to Telford & Wrekin Council’s legal services manager Matthew Cumberbatch, says: “The infor- mation that Nicola Holmes was on an adult website was given to one of Telford and Wrekin’s People’s Association members by a concerned resident of Dawley .
“The website was checked and it was found that it had been operating from March 2011. The website with Ms Holmes’s details had recorded over 5,000 visits to her advert.”
Nigel Newman, spokes-man for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “The standards committee has recen-tly received a complaint about a councillor which it will consider.”
He said any complaint must first be considered by the council’s referrals sub committee and the council aims to conduct this process within a month of any complaint being received.
“This group considers the information in the comp-laint and whether this could be a breach of the councillors’ Code of Practice. If it is, it can decide whether an investigation is then needed or whether the issue can be dealt with in a different way.”
In a separate matter this month, the West Midlands branch of the Labour Party confirmed it had started ex-pulsion proceedings against Councillor Holmes after she allegedly backed two Tories standing against her parish council and party colleagues Shaun Davies and Kuldip Singh Sahota in the borough council elections.
