First glimpse of £1m building at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College
Tuesday 23rd August 2011, 11:30AM BST.
This is the first glimpse of a planned £1 million building at Shropshire’s biggest sixth form college.
Temporary classrooms at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College in Priory Road would be replaced by the building, which will house the geography, environmental science and geology departments.
Officials say the plans have been submitted to Shropshire Council after the college received just over £1 million in May from the £57 million Sixth Form College Building Condition Improvement Fund.
A design and access statement submitted with the plans by agents Baart Harries Newall says: “The Sixth Form College has recently secured funding and wishes to replace the demountable classrooms described above with a permanent structure.”
It adds: “The building will be occupied by the geography department and it is part of the college’s ambition that the new building responds to the green agenda, that it is rooted in sustainable design and is energy efficient.
“The project is essentially to replace temporary accommodation with a new permanent building – so student numbers will not be increased as a result of this proposal.
“There will therefore be no impact on traffic movement to and from the site.”
A decision is due by September 28.
