80 revellers arrested at V Festival
Monday 22nd August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Nearly 80 people were arrested at this year’s V Festival, police said today.
Offences included possession of drugs and thefts from tents as the massive clean-up at Weston Park on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border got under way.
Sergeant Calum Forsyth, from Staffordshire Police, said officers had arrested 77 people.
He said these included 25 for theft from tents, more than 20 for possession of drugs and the remainder minor assaults and public order offences.
Sergeant Forsyth added crime was down compared with last year’s festival.
On-site medical staff treated more than 1,600 people, while ambulance crews were called out 271 times and 40 people were taken to hospital.
They included a woman in her 30s taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham after suffering burns from a gas stove and a man in his 30s was taken to New Cross Hospital having suffered a suspected heart attack.
