River fences call in sad vigil for Mark Hodnett
Friday 19th August 2011, 2:30PM BST.
A petition calling for dangerous areas of the River Severn in Shrewsbury to be fenced off is to be launched as a poignant vigil was held in memory of Mark Hodnett.
Police today said they were satisfied that a body pulled from the river near to the Kingsland Bridge yesterday was that of Mr Hodnett. Formal identification has yet to take place.
The 27-year-old from Grange Road, Radbrook, had been missing since the early hours of Saturday morning.
Mr Hodnett, who has a one-year-old son named Oliver, disappeared after leaving the C21 nightclub in Abbey Foregate shortly before 1am.
Last night, friends of Mr Hodnett held a vigil near the Boathouse pub to pay their respects to him.
Matthew Everington, who has been co-ordinating the campaign to find Mr Hodnett via Facebook, organised the tribute. He said lessons needed to be learned from the latest tragedy and that of last summer, when the body of 24-year-old Joshua Wreford was recovered from the River Severn.
