Thursday 18th August 2011, 2:26PM BST.
A man’s body has been found in the River Severn in Shrewsbury, police have said this afternoon.
But officers said they could not confirm whether the body was that of missing father Mark Hodnett.
Members of the South Wales Police Underwater Search Team were checking the River Severn through the town when the discovery was made by a member of the public.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, this afternoon said: “The body of a man has been found in the River Severn at around midday today.
It was found by a member of the public near to Kingsland Bridge. The police and fire service are recovering the body which has yet to be identified.”
A major search was launched to find the 27-year-old, of Grange Road, Radbrook, who has been missing for six days.
Posters from the Missing People charity were also put up in the town.
A Facebook group set up to help gather information about Mr Hodnett’s whereabouts has now passed 7,000 members.
Mr Hodnett, who has a one-year-old son named Oliver, disappeared after leaving the C21 nightclub in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury shortly before 1am on Saturday.
Police said about 20 officers have been involved in the search for Mr Hodnett, which has included viewing CCTV which captured him in different parts of the town after he left the club.
