Ticket prices up at cash-strapped Ludlow Assembly Rooms
Wednesday 17th August 2011, 11:28AM BST.
Bosses at cash-strapped Ludlow Assembly Rooms have announced they will cut their open hours and raise prices in a bid to save money.
From September 1 the theatre and its box office will shut on Sundays and doors will be closed every day between 3pm and 6pm.
All cinema ticket prices will go up by £1, meaning adult tickets will cost £6 from next month.
The moves are part of a plan to secure the arts venue’s long-term future, after the Arts Council announced it will pull its £60,000 annual funding.
In a statement on its website, the venue said: “Reducing opening hours will make a significant saving, and we have chosen the quietest times of the day and week to be closed. Over the past few months we’ve been working hard to find a way of building a sustainable future after we cease to be funded by the Arts Council in April 2012.
“It hasn’t been easy – this is a complex business and very often any changes you think of making turn out to have an undesirable knock-on effect on another area.”
