Boss spared driving ban to keep Welshpool firm afloat
Wednesday 17th August 2011, 11:27AM BST.
A top figure in one of Welshpool’s biggest firms who was caught driving using a mobile phone was spared a driving ban to save the company from any future difficulties.
Michael Dennis Miles, a director at Technocover in Henfaes Lane, said a ban would mean he would have to leave his job and argued that it would have a detrimental affect on the engineering company’s future.
The 54-year-old from Doncaster admitted using a hand-held phone when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court yesterday.
Miles, who is currently the firm’s acting managing director, described himself as the “face” of Technocover and said he regularly had to drive across Europe to negotiate contracts.
He said: “We’ve already had to make 19 posts redundant and close our Oswestry site and I’m responsible for the business’s three-year recovery plan.
“I would have to leave the company if I lost my licence and I’m not sure where that would leave Technocover.”
