Police this afternoon issued this CCTV image of missing man Mark Hodnett taken just moments before he disappeared after leaving a town nightclub.

The picture captures Mr Hodnett leaving C:21 in Abbey Foregate at 12.55am carrying his check shirt.

He was spotted moments later walking towards the English Bridge – but has not been seen since.

Police launched a search after the 27-year-old failed to return home.

His mobile phone and his check shirt were found close to the River Severn in the area of the Quarry.

Police are investigating a report from a member of the public at 5am on Saturday of someone briefly seen struggling in the river.

It comes as nearly 60 friends and family searched the banks of the River Severn in a bid to find Mr Hodnett last night.

A further search is being planned this evening. Detective Inspector Mick Homden appealed for people to get in touch if they think they might have seen Mr Hodnett after he left the nightclub.

He said: “Mark was wearing a distinctive T-shirt beneath his check shirt which he had taken off and was carrying. It has a v-neck, short sleeves and is particularly noticeable because of the horizontal stripes.

“These can clearly be seen on the CCTV image with alternate light and dark coloured bars across the front.

“At the moment, we have not been able to establish his movements after he made his way towards the English Bridge and I am appealing for anyone who might have seen him to call Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000.

“I am also asking anyone who saw a man fitting his description in the area of the Quarry during the early hours of Saturday, to call.”

Mr Hodnett is 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build with lightish coloured hair.
