KK Downing granted permission for marquees at Astbury Hall
Wednesday 10th August 2011, 9:29AM BST.
Rock guitarist KK Downing has been granted permission to put up marquees for weddings and other functions at his Shropshire country home.
The former Judas Priest star will be able to put up a marquee at any one of three sites in the grounds of Astbury Hall in Astbury, near Bridgnorth.
It has been claimed if the marquees idea proves successful it would boost plans to build a hotel at the site. The application was given the go-ahead at a meeting of Shropshire Council’s south planning committee, held at Ludlow Town Football Club’s SBS Stadium yesterday.
Objections had been raised by parish councillors in Chelmarsh and Eardington parish council, who had claimed there would be problems with extra traffic and noise.
Committee members insisted on a number of conditions, including that amplified music was not played between 11pm and 9am and that a plan was submitted for suitable outdoor lighting.
The scheme will be reviewed in five years’ time when it is hoped work on the hotel will have started.
Councillor Madge Sheinton, a councillor for Cleobury Mortimer, said: “The venue provides a lot of employment. They come from far and wide but there are also a lot of people employed locally, which is exactly what we should be aiming for.”
Councillor Rosanna Taylor-Smith said the suggestions made were “very sensible”.
