Woodside residents’ anger at delay in fixing leak
Monday 8th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Residents of a Telford housing estate have hit out at Severn Trent Water after the company failed to fix a leaking pipe which has left a pool of filthy water outside their homes for more than two weeks.
Residents have now banned their children from playing outside over health fears.
The leak on Woodcroft, Woodside, was first noticed more then two weeks ago by Daniel Sleath, who reported it to Severn Trent Water. Today he said he was fed up of being ignored and demanded the leak was fixed as soon as possible.
“It’s almost three weeks now,” he added.
“The children can’t go out on the street because puddles have now formed and it’s going right down the street.
“There is a constant stream going down the path and I don’t know why they haven’t fixed it yet. All they have done is put some blue markings down.”
Neighbour Jo Broughton said several residents had now complained to Severn Trent.
“It’s becoming a bit of a nightmare. My nieces and nephews are getting bored on their holidays because their parents won’t let them go out. It’s also on the grass so we don’t know how far its spread,” she added.
“I have to pick my dog up because he tried to lick the water and I’ve had to wash his mouth out because I don’t know what’s in it.
“People are walking past it and saying it looks disgusting.”
A spokeswoman for Severn Trent Water said: “The leak was caused by a supply pipe. We sent one of our inspectors out and the job has been planned in for Thursday. It should be fixed on that day.”
