Police look for driver in crash near Oswestry

Police launched a search for a driver who allegedly ran from the scene of a collision near Oswestry.

Witnesses called 999 after spotting a car leave the road and crash into a ditch at the A495 near Whittington at about 11.10am yesterday.

Inspector Paul Crimpton, from West Mercia Police, said: “Inquiries are in hand and we know the identity of the registered keeper of the car, who we have not been able to contact.”

A fire crew from Oswestry and one from Ellesmere attended the scene but nobody needed to be rescued.

Nobody else or any other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the incident, police said.

Police were today unable to confirm whether the driver had since been traced.
