Monday 8th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
The funeral of a Mid Wales boy who was killed by a falling goalpost will take place on Thursday.
Casey Breese, 12, died on July 29 on the recreation ground in Caersws, near Newtown.
He had been playing with friends when tragedy struck. His death has been described by police as a “tragic accident” and officers from the police and Health & Safety Executive are investigating.
Sian George, Dyfed Powys Police spokeswoman, today confirmed the funeral would take place this week. She said: “The family of 12-year-old Casey Breese have asked us to issue the arrangements for the funeral on their behalf.
“A public service will take place on August 11 at 1pm in Caersws Presbyterian Chapel – followed by a burial in Llanwnog.”
She added that the family requested those attending to wear colourful clothing.
Donations can be made in Casey’s memory for the air ambulance, Caersws Junior Football Club, Caersws Presbyterian Chapel and Shrewsbury Hospital.
Floral tributes have been laid at Caersws’ recreation ground and a Manchester United top signed by his family has also been left as a tribute to the popular Newtown High School pupil.
A Facebook page has been set up in Casey’s memory with hundreds of tributes from his family and friends.
One friend, Ryan Jehu wrote: “RIP Casey you will be missed and Caersws won’t be the same without you. X.”
An inquest on Casey was opened and adjourned by Powys coroner Mr Peter Maddox on Wednesday afternoon.
