Wife to create oasis for disabled soldier

The family of a soldier injured in battle in Afghanistan have launched a cash appeal to transform his overgrown garden into a sensory area.

Corporal Simon Vaughan, from Hodnet, suffered serious brain injuries in December 2008 when a vehicle he was travelling in drove over an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province.

His family was told by doctors his brain injuries were so severe he would remain in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.

But he is improving well, left hospital and moved into his new family home, in Ercall Heath, near Newport, last month.

The £100,000 home was built for the family thanks to the fundraising efforts of his wife Donna, family, friends and supporters.
