Roads system ‘not working’
Friday 5th August 2011, 11:00AM BST.
Council chiefs today admitted Welshpool’s controversial one-way system was not working and have ordered a review to look at possible alternatives.
Councillor David Jones, a member of Powys County Council’s crime, disorder and environment committee, said it was “plain for all to see” there was more traffic congestion, especially on Saturdays.
Scores of motorists and business owners have complained the new layout has made traffic problems worse in the town.
Councillor Jones, who will be leading the review, said: “Nothing is permanent.
“If we can come up with an affordable scheme that is better that we have at the moment then it what we will recommend.”
