Friday 5th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.

A Shropshire woman was arrested after a road crash in which a pedestrian died.

The female pedestrian was struck by a silver Audi convertible car as she walked a dog with another woman along a footpath.

The accident happened on the A458 Bridgnorth Road at Stourton towards Enville in south Staffordshire.

The woman, who was aged 62, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, she could not be saved and died at the hospital. Police said today she had not yet been identified. The dog, a Yorkshire Terrier, also died.

The other woman was treated for minor head and arm injuries.

Police said a 53-year-old woman from the Bridgnorth area was arrested. She has since been released on police bail.

Suzie Fothergill, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said: “On arrival at the scene crews found two pedestrians that had been in collision with a car.

“One of the pedestrians, a woman, had suffered a serious head injury. She was confirmed deceased at hospital.”

Workers at the Willow Tree Tea Rooms in Bridgnorth Road said they had seen police cars and ambulances travelling towards Kinver after the crash at about 10.30am yesterday.

Police appealed for witnesses and anyone with information should call 0300 1234455.
