Telford and Wrekin Council has given people the chance to set up a dream budget – by releasing an online calculator. But will it have an influence on the real thing?

Shropshire tried something similar a couple of years ago. A totally useless exercise as the programme does not take account of statutory responsibilities and by using block departmental headings, does not represent the true services supplied by the council, some of which, the average Joe in the street are probably completely unaware that their council provides. Good PR, bad financial planning.
