Tuesday 2nd August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
The family of a 12-year-old boy who died after being hit by a falling goalpost have paid tribute to their “lively and energetic” youngster.
Casey Breese, of Caersws, near Newtown, had been playing football with friends in a recreation ground when he was fatally injured on Friday. The youngster was airlifted to hospital where he died.
In a statement today his parents and family, said: “Casey was a keen footballer and an important member of Caersws Under-12’s Football Club. Casey attended Newtown High School where he had recently moved into year eight.
“During his spare time he was passionate about riding his BMX bicycle, playing with his friends in the village, attending the Caersws Golf range and he recently participated in a rounders fun day competition and won the championship.
“He often spent time at his uncle’s farm where he loved riding his racing quad and helping out. Casey was a lively, energetic lad full of fun and was loved by all in the community.
“On one occasion he jumped, fully clothed into a swimming pool, and only then thought about what was in his pockets. He enjoyed spending time with his dad at his building firm and he loved getting his hands dirty.
“So many friends and family and members of the community remember Casey and he will be sadly missed by all.”
The statement went on to read that Casey’s parents and sisters did not blame or hold anyone responsible for the “unexpected and tragic incident”.
Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at Caersws’ recreation ground including a Manchester United top laid by his parents.
