Forecasters focus on showers and storms
Tuesday 2nd August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Parasols will go down and umbrellas hastily put up as the weather takes on a more gloomy outlook across Shropshire and Mid Wales later this week, forecasters said today.
The county is expected to bask in temperatures more suited to the tropics today and tomorrow with highs of 24C (75F). The mercury could top 30C (86F) in some parts of the country.
But on Thursday forecasters say sunshine will give way to heavy showers and possible thunderstorms, with temperatures dropping to 20C (68F).
It will get even cooler come Saturday when temperatures are expected to drop to 18C (64F) and just 11C (52F) at night.
Aisling Creevey, a forecaster at MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: “Today will be another hot day. We are generally expecting temperatures of 28C (82F), but might get little pockets of 29C (84F) and 30C (86F) in sheltered areas with low winds.
“By tonight it will be dry in most areas, with perhaps some misty conditions developing, particularly across northern areas.
“We are looking at Thursday where everything is going to change. It will go from fine and settled to cloudy with bursts of rain and temperatures dropping to average. It will feel noticeably cooler.”
