Letter points to parking ‘failings’
Monday 1st August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Shropshire Council was today accused of ignoring town councillors in Ellesmere over controversial parking arrangements in the town.
Ellesmere Town Council created a “task and finish group” after Shirehall unveiled plans to impose charges in the town.
Now its members have written an open letter claiming the unitary council has not been working with town councillors.
Members warned the town’s economic situation is “fragile”. The group has accused Shirehall officials of bypassing it when communicating with residents in Wharf Road and bosses of Ellesmere Comrades’ Club about parking restrictions.
But Shropshire Council said it hopes to work with the town council to address issues and had reorganised some of its operations to be more “local area-directed”.
