A Shrewsbury woman who is the fourth generation of her family to be in the military is preparing to head off on a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Zoe Harrop, a 22-year-old from Bayston Hill, is a member of the Royal Navy and will be off to the country in September for a six-month tour. She explained that she was following in a family tradition by being in the armed services.

“My great-grandad was in the Army, my grandad was in the Navy, my dad was in theArmy and I’m in the Navy so it is going round the generations,” Miss Harrop said.

She said she was feeling positive about her forthcoming tour of duty in her job as an aircraft engineer and technician.

She added: “I’m not too nervous and am looking forward to going out and seeing the sort of work that is being done out there. I expect it will be quite a lot different from Shropshire.”
