Telford & Wrekin Council to appoint interim chief
Thursday 28th July 2011, 12:29PM BST.
The appointment of a new interim chief executive at Telford & Wrekin Council is expected to be rubber-stamped today.
The authority’s ruling Labour group has recommended Richard Partington, 45, currently assistant chief executive, should take on the role for a period of six to nine months following interviews this week.
He will replace his former boss Victor Brownlees, if the recommendation is approved at a full council meeting tonight.
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Kuldip Singh Sahota said: “The council’s personnel board interviewed an extremely strong field of five candidates on Tuesday as part of the thorough recruitment process necessary to determine the right person for this challenging role.
“My cabinet colleagues and I are very much looking forward to working with Richard during the period that the interim chief executive is in post.
“Richard will use this time to accelerate our progress towards becoming a truly co-operative council. This will include undertaking the review of our senior management arrangements.”
The married father-of-two was born in Wrexham and began his career in local government as an administrative assistant at North Shropshire District Council before joining Telford & Wrekin in 1991.
He will be the council’s third chief executive in two years after Mr Brownlees offered to quit his £149,000-a-year job less than two months after Labour wrested control of the council from the Tories at the May elections.
