A teenager has been arrested after workmen who were installing floodlights at a Mid Wales football club complained that they were being shot at.

The 16-year-old boy has been bailed by Dyfed-Powys Police pending further inquiries after he was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm on Tuesday afternoon.

The men were working on the floodlights at Guilsfield Football Club, next to the primary school, when they realised shots were being fired at them. Workers from Wirral-based firm Surface Lux said today they felt something pass their heads.

Staff member Chris Goodall said: "We come from Liverpool and would never expect something like this to happen in such a quiet Welsh village.

"It was unbelievable, to be honest. I was walking bet-ween two of the lights when I heard something whizz past my ears. I asked the lads if they had heard anything and thought perhaps it was a sound caused by an electric fence but then one of the boys said we were being shot at.

"There were five or six shots. Nothing like this has ever happened to us before and we work all over the country in some very rough places."

Sian George, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, app-ealed for further witnesses to come forward.
