Will Keira win TV advert job?
Monday 25th July 2011, 4:46PM BST.
A Shrewsbury youngster is in the running to be the new face of a television advertising campaign for a best-selling children’s pain and fever relief medicine.
Keira James, a three year old who lives in Monkmoor, is currently fourth on the leaderboard in the nine months to six years old category in the “Be A Calpol Star” competition on Facebook.
She has gained almost 500 votes in the contest, which see parents upload pictures and videos of their youngsters and describe why they believe they have star quality.
Her mother Sadie McMullen said she was delighted with how well her daughter is doing. “She was entered in the competition two weeks ago on Monday and has got almost 500 votes. I’m very proud,” she said.
“I’ve got a lot of relatives so all the family have come together and got the link on their Facebook walls.” She added Keira is excited about being in the competition and the prospect of starring in the campaign.
“She has a look at the screen and we show her and tell her, ‘you might be on telly’.
“She’s a little star and she brightens up everyone’s life.”
Voting runs until August 2, with the top 12 children in each category going forward to an audition stage in front of an independent judging panel, where they will be involved in a professional photoshoot.
Calpol brand manager Claire Ryder said: “Keira is one of the popular little stars in the competition and is described as being one by her mum because she brings joy to everyone she knows.
“The support she’s had so far has been great and we wish her further success in getting to the live auditions.”
More than 15,000 parents have entered their child in the contest, which started at the beginning of July and more than 40,000 votes have been cast.
The closing date for entries in the competition is July 28. For details or to vote, visit www.facebook.com/calpoluk
