The Osmonds to play Shrewsbury Theatre Severn
Saturday 23rd July 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn is to welcome The Osmonds as the world’s best known singing family embarks on its very last tour.
For more than five decades The Osmonds have been entertaining sell-out crowds across the globe.
Next year, minus Donny and big brother Alan, the four Osmonds, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Jimmy, will celebrate their biggest ever UK tour.
The tour, titled The Osmonds – Final Tour – Up Close and Personal, takes in 50 dates including the Theatre Severn on March 27.
Speaking from America, Jimmy said the tour would take fans on a journey.

How horrible. I’m on holiday in Cornwall and might just stay here!!!!

Wooohoooo I’ve got front row seats .. so chuffed, I’ve wanted to see them since I was 7. Shame Donny won’t be with them but never mind.
Why’s Jeremy Beadle in there?
That’s Marie.

And for that matter, John Prescott is looking healthier nowadays.
Will Jimmy wear very tight trousers?
So he can hit the prepubertal high notes of course!
I can’t imagine this attracting much interest to be honest but maybe I’m wrong!
My sister has tickets. According to her they sold out pretty quick.
I don’t share her taste in music.

Theatre Severn… At the cutting edge of music again…
Report abuse
I think you’re looking in the wrong place if you expect a ‘theatre’ to provide cutting edge music. The clue is in the name pal.
So what should we expect from a “theatre”: The Osmonds? Think about it, the clue’s in the name.
Well, the Osmonds are probably more about light entertainment than the music itself. Precisely the sort of act which would perform a string of theatre dates. I can’t imagine them stepping out at Brixton Academy.
My point was that to look to your local ‘theatre’ for cutting edge music is somewhat misplaced. It’s like bemoaning the lack of quality drama at Wolves Civic.
I think you can expect a great deal from the theatre, I don’t know what you are hoping for but I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed if it is cutting edge music. What credible band would want to play the theatre in Shrewsbury? It’s not very cool is it?
So, apart from the three on the left, all four of the Osmonds featured in the picture above will be there.
Oh dear, oh dear. So we spent £28 million building Theatre Severn, a further half million every year to bail it out, so some of the Osmonds can perform?
@Andrew firstly its the Osmonds and secondly this line up of The Osmonds has been selling out arenas for many years!
I hope they’ll bring their helicopter.

So…when the new Theatre was in the offing, we were promised it would draw better acts than the Music Hall. So far, it has drawn exactly the same standard of acts. Pam Ayres, the Osmonds…I can sum up the quality on offer much as Fletch did in Porridge; ‘Two bit parts and a Widow Twankie’. Whoever puts together the lineup for the theatre is, I’m sorry to say, failing. Please set your sights a little higher.

To All. Like the theartre or not, & I happen like it, Peter(11)is on the money. Book the right acts the crowds will come & the theatre & its reputation will only flourish.
I was there a couple of years ago for Jake & Elwood (Blues Bros tribute band). The band were top & we had a great night out. However the building accommodated the sell out crowd easily by way of bar space, ease of access and exit and so on & all was good.
Nothing wrong with the building. I even like its external design & location however the Osmonds booking should be considered a time filler, not a ‘coo’.
In these money tight days I too have too ‘dig deep’ but will happily do so for something a bit special, something beyond 1.5 Osmonds.

For all those making snide comments I think its a great achievement to have been in show business as long as they have. Their obviously making a good living so fair play to them and for the record (remember them!) I am not a fan.

For all you Osmond fans they’re playing Wolves Civic in April so you can go see them twice

Crazzzy Horsssesss!!!

The Osmonds are world class entertainers. They play to sell out audiences around the world and have been doing for over 50 years.
The dates for this tour have proved popular and some have already sold out.
The whole idea of the tour is to play lots of small venues rather than the usual arena dates so that they can get “Up Close and Personal”, as well as reaching an audience who would not normally be interested in arena performances.
To misrepresent The Osmonds as a unpopular or poor act is just plain wrong and betrays an ignorance of their importance in the history of pop music.
I suggest these folks go along to the concert with an open mind …. it takes a big person to admit they were wrong – I wonder how “big” the Osmond’s critics really are?
Of course the Osmonds are unpopular………….. its apparent by the fact that not even the Osmonds themselves want to be there! If they did then more of them would be present on the night. They can’t be bothered!
Not so much ‘Crazy Horses’, more like flogging dead ones!
Further, please explain their importance in the history of pop. I fail to see it.
If they are so unpopular then why is the show sold out?
I’m sorry this just isnt working, come on, its like saying back in 65 , I got tickets to see the Beatles but Paul and John are not playing. Anyway I digress, isn’t it about time the so called sales team got some relevant, decent talent at this dismally promoted venue, surely this so called theatre should be able to attract decent artists, decent comedians, and great shows.
Let another waste of tax payers money and another nail in the slow death of Shrewsbury, a once great town.
I think you will be surprised how many people will come to see The Osmonds, they have been filling arenas for years and it seems Osmond fans will have to show you all how to have a good time!
@Jules – they’ve been playing for over 50 years?? Eh?
They started as a child act in the late 50s, featuring regularly on the Andy Williams TV show in the early ’60s – so the claim to 50+ years (for the older ones at least) is true.
Yes the original 4 Osmonds, Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay have been performing for over 50 years; they were small children when they started out and celebrated their 50 years in showbusiness with a world-wide arena tour in 2008.
Alan is now retired, Donny and Marie are currently focussing their energy on their Las Vegas show. The remaining four Osmonds including the lead singer of the group Merrill, as well as Wayne, Jimmy and Jay will be be performing.
I’ve been told the show is already sold out.
Playing Crazy Horses in a white elephant because of the snobbery within the establishment, priceless..
Yahooooo. I can’t wait. I’m traveling once again from the USA to see the guys and I can assure you it’s worth every penny!!! I’ve seen many bands over the years and none are as good as The Osmonds who I first saw in the 70′s. I’ve seen them in various line ups (all Osmonds), on 3 continents, over the past few decades and I’ll be with them until the end. They are the best and have a very large, dedicated fan base.

It’s actually very sad that some people have chosen to meet this story with negative comments.
The Osmonds are not my cup of tea either, but it is clear that many people ARE excited about this show. Surely it is better for Shrewsbury to be a part of this tour than not.
Ultimately, if people don’t have anything good, or constructive to contribute, perhaps they shouldn’t bother.
I want to see great acts play in Shrewsbury as much as anybody, but lets show a little humility and respect, and in doing so, suggest that we actually deserve ‘better’ acts than The Osmonds.
