Wakeman School’s assistant head is moving on
Friday 22nd July 2011, 7:21PM BST.
The assistant headteacher of a Shrewsbury secondary school under threat of closure has announced she is to quit – but insisted today her decision was nothing to with the continuing doubts over its future.
Jeni Molloy is set to leave her job at the Wakeman school today in order to take up a new role as assistant principal at the King’s School in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton. But she said: “My news has nothing to do with the school.
“I have been here for 14 years now so I think in my own time, I have gone as far as I can go.
“I am very sad to leave the school, as pupils and parents have been a tremendous support. I’m even more sad to leave at a difficult time for the school. I will be staying in touch with the staff here, as I made a lot of good friends.
It is a personal move for my own career development.”
Mrs Molloy arrived at the school as an English teacher, going on to take up roles as Head of English and Head of Year, before going on to the job of assistant head.
One of her final acts at the school this week was helping to organise a synchronised balloon release from the grounds.
Hundreds of balloons with tags asking finders to log on to the website and pledge support for the school were released as part of the campaign to save the Wakeman.
The person who finds the balloon that has travelled furthest will be rewarded with a CD sound system that has been donated by the Asda store in Old Potts Way.
A public consultation on whether to close the Wakeman School has recently been reopened and will run until August 12.
