Burglary suspects caught after police chase near Whitchurch

Suspected burglars who targeted homes in a Shropshire village were caught by police following a car chase near Whitchurch. Police arrested three burglary suspects after following and stopping a car yesterday.
Three men aged 29, 22 and 19 were arrested along the A525 Wrexham Road heading towards Wales.
They were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station on suspicion of carrying out a number of burglaries in the Higher Heath area.
Police officers tracked the black VW Golf GTi across the Welsh border and successfully arrested the men after they abandoned the vehicle.
Detective Sergeant John Weaver said: “West Mercia Police officers were alerted by residents of Higher Heath who had been disturbed in their homes between 4am and 5am.
“The officers located a black VW Golf which was pursued for several miles before the occupants abandoned it and were arrested shortly after around 6.30am.”
He said the men were currently being held in connection with four burglaries or attempted burglaries in Heathwood Road and Woodlands Grove in Higher Heath at around 4.30am.
“Investigations are continuing and I am appealing for any information which might assist us,” he said.
“In particular, we are urging people to contact Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000 if they spotted either the black VW Golf or men acting suspiciously in the Higher Heath area.”
