Burst water main hits 1,000 Telford homes
Friday 22nd July 2011, 11:19AM BST.
More than 1,000 homes in Telford were left either without water or with limited supplies last night due to a burst water main.
Tenants and homeowners in Priorslee, Brookside, Hollinswood and Randlay bombarded Severn Trent Water with calls after finding themselves high and dry at around 8pm yesterday.
Severn Trent sent a team out and eventually located the source of the problem as a burst water main in Redhill.
Spokeswoman Amy Weiser said: “Just after 8pm we started to get quite a few phone calls from people, either saying they had no supply or low pressure.
“We sent a team out there to investigate. It took us a fair bit of time to find the burst main as it was in quite a rural area in Redhill.
“Once we had located it, we were able to isolate the supply, stop the leak and work on re-zoning to make sure people got water back.
“It was done by about 3am this morning and nearly all homes would have been back on supply since then. We have only had one phone call this season from that area about low pressure.
Miss Weiner admitted the burst main had affected a lot of homes.
“It’s impossible to say exactly how many homes were affected by the burst water main,” she said.
“But it was definitely more than 1,000.”

Water went off in Priorslee at 9-ish and came back on at 12-ish, so it has to be said well done S-T for getting on top of this so quickly. Now, why the infrastructure is so poor the pipe burst in the first place, is another story……..

In Hollinswood we noticed it had gone about half past 7. We were still without water at 1am when we retired for the evening. Thankfully we awoke to see the water had returned although now there seems to be a lot of air in the system.
