Ambulance in crash with car near Shrewsbury
Friday 22nd July 2011, 2:45PM BST.
Two paramedics on a 999 call were taken to hospital after their ambulance was involved in a collision with a car in Shrewsbury.
The incident happened as the vehicle made its way to an emergency call with its blue lights and siren on.
The crash resulted in minor injuries to the pair inside the ambulance, while the driver of the car involved also had to be taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The collision happened on Wednesday shortly after 7.20pm at the junction of Arlington Way and Battlefield Road.
Suzie Fothergill, a spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said that another ambulance was called to the scene following the incident.
“The ambulance was on the way to a 999 call at the time of the incident. A rapid response vehicle was already in attendance at the initial incident and a second ambulance was immediately dispatched to this call,” she said.
“Attending the road traffic collision were two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance and an incident support officer.
“One man from the car and two ambulance clinicians were treated at the scene for minor injuries and transferred to hospital as a precaution.”
West Mercia Police were unavailable for comment.
