Telford Tigers player-coach Tom Watkins will be joining Dancing on Ice stars Laura Hamilton and Nicky Slater at a skateathon in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital this weekend – and he will have a special reason for taking to the ice.
Tom’s son, Sam – who now plays ice hockey for Telford Venom – was born with a heart defect seven years ago and spent much of his early life at the hospital.
