Preferred bidder chosen for Lake Vyrnwy estate
Thursday 21st July 2011, 3:57PM BST.
The preferred bidders for the sale of the 23,000-acre Lake Vyrnwy estate has been chosen – but their identity is being kept under wraps.
Severn Trent wants to sell the estate’s 125-year lease which includes agriculture, forestry and commercial property around the lake for about £11 million.
The sale, which excludes the lake, is being handled by Knight Frank and a number of interested parties made a bid for it, including Bala-born businessman Rhys Jones, the RSPB and Mid Wales Housing Association.
Today Knight Frank officials revealed they had decided on the preferred bidder but refused to name them.
Charlotte Palmer, for Knight Frank, said: “After careful consideration Severn Trent Water has chosen its preferred bidders.
“We are now making preparations to begin the three-month consultation with the Countryside Council for Wales after which we will be able to confirm the identity of the buyers.”
Councillor Simon Baynes, for Llanwddyn, Llangynog and Penybontfawr, said the community had been waiting for around a year to see who would take over the estate.
He said: “The bidder will now have to go through the vetting process by the Countryside Council for Wales. The process is a formality.”
