MP Paterson greets princess sporting a black eye
Thursday 21st July 2011, 3:44PM BST.
A black eye sported by Shropshire MP Owen Paterson was a keen topic of conversation as he greeted Princess Alexandra on her visit to the county today.
Mr Paterson told the royal he had fallen off a bicycle while trying to get fit for the Mongolian Charity Horse Ride he is taking part in next month along with wife Rosie.
The couple greeted the Princess as she arrived at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital today. She was also due to visit the Battlefield 1403 visitor centre in Shrewsbury this afternoon.
The visit coincided with the commemoration of the anniversary of the Battle of Shrewsbury.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Joyce Jagger, owner of Battlefield 1403, said: “We are delighted she is coming, it is a great honour. Everybody here is looking forward to seeing her.”
The princess was set to be greeted in Shrewsbury by pupils from Hadnall Primary School, as well as representatives from the Severn Hospice, PDSA and Shropshire Association for the Blind charities along with 150 guests.
Earlier in the day the royal apologised as she arrived early at the Torch Building at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital.
