Miniature air show was on a large scale
Monday 18th July 2011, 10:25AM BST.
Scaled down models of historic aircraft took to the skies of Shropshire this weekend, attracting thousands of visitors from across the county and further afield to RAF Cosford.
The annual Large Model Aircraft Rally saw dozens of remotely operated planes soar through county skies, thrilling crowds back on the ground.
Dave Johnson, chairman of the Large Model Association, said although the weather caused some people to stay indoors around 10,000 people still turned out to enjoy the show.
“It was absolutely brilliant,” said Mr Johnson.
“It was raining very heavily on Saturday morning and during the weekend we were interrupted several times but we kept going and I believe the event was a great success.
“We delayed the start of the programme on Saturday by an hour or so and ran it a bit later on in the evening.
“It was a similar story on Sunday but everything took place as it should have done.
“Although we were slightly down on the number of people usually attending the event the car parks were still full and I thank everyone who did turn out to support us.”
The 18th annual event included multiple flights and displays from the iconic Spitfire as well as flights from Britain’s Vulcan, Victor and Valiant V-Bombers – which flew together in formation for the first time at the show.
