A 30-year-old Shropshire man has been jailed indefinitely after setting fire to a county rugby club causing more than £30,000 damage.
Gavin Winwood, 30, of Hazelwells Road, in Highley, near Bridgnorth, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday charged with two counts of burglary and one of arson. Winwood admitted breaking into Highley Rugby Club on February 9, stealing kit and destroying the building in an arson attack.
He also admitted a charge of breaking into a house in the village and stealing items which included £40 in cash and a laptop computer.
Judge Peter Barrie gave Winwood an indeterminate sentence for public protection with a minimum term of 59 weeks before he can be considered for parole.
He was also given eight months for burgling the club and six months for the house burglary, both of which will run concurrently to the main sentence.
